Human Resources Assistant

The main function of the HR Assistant is to help other members within the department with a variety of daily required duties and activities. Work involves support in the recruitment and management of, as well as providing direction for, our employees; the creation, processing and retention of employment, benefit, and other related records; ensuring compliance with applicable local, state and federal laws; new employee orientation; assistance with documentation related to COBRA and FMLA activities; time and labor management tasks; the preparation of schedules for company-related events and activities; and assisting, as needed, in our company café.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and/or develop records related to recruiting, training, promotion and termination activities
  • Assure compliance with applicable local, state and federal laws while performing assigned work duties
  • Create new employee files
  • Schedule and perform new employee orientation
  • Assist in the production, verification and monitoring of documentation related to COBRA and FMLA activities
  • Prepare schedules for assigned company activities as needed (training, DFWP testing, etc)
  • Develop and maintain professional working relationships with employees at all levels
  • Meet attendance and punctuality expectations

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • General clerical and administrative skills, such as simple math; filing; verbal and written communication
  • Ability to listen to and understand information; to communicate well, verbally and in writing
  • Computer proficiency
  • Ability to use telephone systems, copiers and scanning machines
  • General knowledge in the use of MS Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Ability to learn and apply principles and practices of Human Resources activities
  • Ability to take direction and work well on a team
  • Good time management skills
  • Must demonstrate a high attention to detail
  • High School Diploma; or equivalent 2-3 years administrative or clerical work experience
  • Familiarity with Human Resources functions and activities
