Truss Signs

When fires erupt, entering into a building engulfed in flames puts firefighters into a very unpredictable environment. The safety of firefighters is of concern because of the high number of firefighter fatalities and injuries caused by building structural collapses. To protect firefighters, most states have implemented posting Truss Signs on their buildings to indicate the constructional make-up.

Truss Signs inform fire fighters what construction was used in the building so they can determine if it is safe to enter. Truss Signs meet 5.05 Signage of Buildings with Wood or Lightweight Steel Truss, or Composite Wood Joist (TJI) or Roof Construction (Reference 2007 San Francisco Fire Code Section 507.3.2).Provide a visual to warn firefighters about the increased potential for collapse with Truss Signs.
