How Safe is America's Roadway System?
The U.S. roadway system's positive trends are continuing with a 2007 fatality rate of approximately 1.37 deaths per 100 million miles of travel (down from 5.50 fatalities in 1966). However, that's still not good enough. In 2008, nearly 2.4 million people were injured and 37,261 people died on our nation's roads.
How Significant is the Work Zone Safety Problem?
In 2008, there were 720 work zone fatalities or 2% of all roadway fatalities for the year
80% of work zone fatalities were motorists
In addition, there are over 40,000 injuries in work zones
One work zone fatality every 10 hours (2.3 a day)
One work zone injury every 13 minutes (110 a day)
The Office of Safety believes that widespread implementation of safety countermeasures can serve to accelerate the achievement of local, state and national safety goals. Included are:
1. Road Safety Audits
2. Rumble Strips and Rumble Stripes
3. Median Barriers
4. Safety Edge
5. Roundabouts
6. Left and Right Turn Lanes at Stop-Controlled Intersections
7. Yellow Change Intervals
8. Medians and Pedestrian Refuge Areas in Urban and Suburban Areas
9. Walkways

Tilt-Adjust™ Roll-Up Sign Stand from Accuform Signs displays 36” and 48” diamond shaped roll-up signs with fiberglass rib supports for use in construction zones where vehicle and worker safety is a priority. The spring-less design maintains rigidity by-way of a vertical stabilizing bracket. When the Stand sits at an angle, there’s no need for the roll-up sign to be at that same angle. The bracket has an innovative tilt-adjustment feature - tilt the sign, then adjust to desired angle for proper horizontal visibility.
Sign Stand
Powder-coated galvanized steel frame construction resists rust and corrosion. Black vertical bracket, with contrasting bright orange steel legs, are for added safety visibility. Has non-slip, rubber tip ends. Sign stand opens up easily for quick deployment, creating a wide stable footprint, yet folding up to a compact size.
Cross-Ribs
Durable, flexible fiberglass cross-ribs insert into the four-corner pockets of the sign to provide rigid support. The thicker of the two cross-ribs is the vertical support rib.
Note: Cross-Ribs are sold separately for use with different roll-up signs as needed.
Roll-Up Construction Sign Legends and Overlays
Make your sign work in various applications! Some message signs have snaps to accommodate overlays to change the directional or distance message. They are size and material specific to the Roll-Up Sign.
Personalized Roll-Up Signs
