Product Manager

Responsible for the strategic planning and execution of all facets of a product or line, throughout its lifecycle in support of our company vision to be our customers’ favorite supplier, including increasing profitability on existing items, sourcing and developing new products, determining pricing structures, estimating and providing quotations on custom products, the development and maintenance of product presentation for both catalog and web, supporting other departments through training and sharing of information, and conducting ongoing research and review of all applicable government and industry regulations or standards.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Define product strategies, creating roadmaps for your assigned categories
  • Source and develop new products from competitors; distributors; trade magazines and shows; current products or suppliers; customer ideas; and other sources
  • Conduct ongoing product line revision, to include current catalog(s) as well as company website
  • Develop complete product presentation, to include: writing copy, set-up of table formats for order specifications, part number set-ups and pricing; and obtain imagery as needed
  • Continuously review and evaluate new and existing product, weighing against sales and gross profit margins, the allocation of catalog space and competitive market prices
  • Conduct ongoing review and research of government or industry standards and become proficient in those areas that affect our product lines
  • Maintain a database of summaries, including key points and proper documentation, reporting government and industry regulations/standards, and changes therein, that affect our product offering
  • Maintain reference files on products and assigned categories, to include literature, specifications, cost, pricing strategies, and properly documented regulatory information
  • Estimate pricing for items in assigned categories and provide quotations, as required
  • Develop and maintain all features of product presentation, including copy, images and table formatting for part numbers, specs and pricing
  • Establish, develop, and maintain vendor relationships; maintain communication to negotiate products, pricing, terms, and conditions
  • Work with the purchasing department to establish and maintain product buying strategies and inventory levels
  • Participate in sales meetings to brief and train managers and customer service reps on products and categories
  • Be a resource to other departments, as required, providing general knowledge information, specifications on products, pricing information, formal quotations and related regulatory info
  • Provide product support and resources to other departments for marketing purposes and advertising programs
  • Maintain an expert knowledge of competitor products and categories
  • Work with art and production teams to provide necessary information for product creation, as required
  • Ability to travel on occasion to meet with vendors and attend trade expositions and seminars to gain product and market knowledge
  • Must be able to take direction and work well with others
  • Desired Skills and Experience:

    • Computer proficiency – general knowledge of PC use, Microsoft Office applications and internet search use
    • Must demonstrate accuracy and a high attention to detail
    • Must be able to take direction and work well on a team
    • Ability to complete all assigned training
    • Frontier ERP system experience a plus
    • Written and oral proficiency in Spanish or French a plus
    • 3+ years’ product management experience, preferably in the business-to-business industrial (or related) catalog market
    • Ability to travel, on occasion
    • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
